Marketing Automation with Microsoft Dynamics 365

a review of marketing automation and your options when using Microsoft Dynamics 365

Customer Relationship Management solutions should give you a full view of how your clients interact with you, usually across your entire organization, from first contact.  This should include the marketing activity that often is responsible for first finding the prospect, and also for much of the ongoing nurturing both before the initial sale and during the entire lifecycle of the customer.  Marketing automation makes that so much easier.  This ebook gives you and overview of the main options for marketing automation with Microsoft Dynamics 365 - including Dynamics 365 for Marketing, ClickDimensions, PowerObjects Power Pack, Adobe Marketing Cloud and HubSpot.

Marketing automation software indicates to you when a prospect’s timing is changing to your advantage.

This ebook is for you – if you are using, or thinking of using, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and want more from your marketing! It explains marketing automation and distils the options for you.

What Is Marketing Automation?

  • Is it email marketing?
  • Is it inbound marketing?
  • Is it something else?
  • Is it all of that?
  • What does it mean to YOU as a marketer of high value products?

Marketing Automation and CRM - at face value, they seem to be the same thing, and they are often confused. In fact, they serve two distinct purposes. Marketing Automation lets you follow a prospect’s top-of-funnel activities. CRM typically takes over once the person has become at least a prospect. CRM stores information including how long a contact has been a customer, past purchase records, the dates and notes of any phone conversations you’ve had with them – anywhere in the organisation. Marketing automation software helps you build a relationship with people that are not yet ready to buy from you.

Challenges with Microsoft Dynamics 365 v9 update and Microsoft Edge browser

endlessdelay cr

This morning I had a call from a client who had deployed the latest, v9.02, update over the weekend. His challenge was that some of his team could no longer open cases using the Outlook client or the browser. They could view lists, but attempting to open a case to update it or add notes was impossible – loading business logic just gave the 'circle of endless delay'.

As always, a problem affecting some users can be difficult to resolve. However, it soon became obvious that those people affected by the problem all use Microsoft Edge.
Once these users had moved their default browser to a browser other than Microsoft Edge and cleared their cache in Microsoft Edge the problem was resolved. It is essential to clear the cache, not to just change the default browser.

Browser issues are relatively common with applications such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 – and can arise very unexpectedly – caused either by an upgrade in Microsoft Dynamics 365, or by an upgrade to the browser. Previously I wrote about an issue with Chrome 37. When you are faced with a problem that affects some by not all of users, it is essential to work out what the people affected have in common. This is one of the skills taught in our Troubleshooting Microsoft Dynamics 365 course.

It’s official – Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE, Finance and Operations apps, are now receiving semi-annual updates

halloween easter 400x700

Although this update schedule has effectively been in place since April 2018 – when the latest version of CE - 9.02 - was released – click here to read my blog on the changes in 9.02, last Friday Microsoft announced that Microsoft Dynamics 365 would receive major updates every April and October - every Easter and Halloween.

This means that every six months, there will be a slew of new features and deprecations to understand and to apply to your implementations – if you are running a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Online solution. For those of us running a Microsoft Dynamics 365 on-prem, or partner hosted (eg OzCloudCRM) this means that the supported versions will change each six months, although the pressure to upgrade is somewhat lower.

Is your CRM system a waste of time and money?

Recently, I spoke with Dylis Guyan about a subject close to my heart - ensuring that your CRM solution is not a waste of time or money.

Do you have a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool in place, that enables you, as a business owner or manager to identify;

  • a decline in sales,
  • loss of existing clients,
  • your best clients,
  • the position of the decision maker,
  • where your best sales are coming from and much more?

Or is your CRM tool seen as another irritant which takes up too much of your time? Listen to my discussion with Dylis Guyan. Together we open your eyes to the huge opportunities your CRM system will give you to develop more business and which all of your Sales People will love!

Dos and Don'ts of Business Training - published in Business.com

Education is the cornerstone to success of many projects in the business world, and yet it is often not done – be that totally not done, or done so poorly that it might as well have not been done. Meanwhile we have some very frightening statistics of project failure – 60+% of IT projects are said to have failed and in the CRM space, that number climbs to 85%.

There are many reasons for these failures, and training or even the broader education is only part of the solution. However, here I want to focus on how we can change our approach to training to get better results.
We know that people learn in different ways:
