What Is Marketing Automation?
Marketing Automation and CRM - at face value, they seem to be the same thing, and they are often confused. In fact, they serve two distinct purposes. Marketing Automation lets you follow a prospect’s top-of-funnel activities. CRM typically takes over once the person has become at least a prospect. CRM stores information including how long a contact has been a customer, past purchase records, the dates and notes of any phone conversations you’ve had with them – anywhere in the organisation. Marketing automation software helps you build a relationship with people that are not yet ready to buy from you.

This morning I had a call from a client who had deployed the latest, v9.02, update over the weekend. His challenge was that some of his team could no longer open cases using the Outlook client or the browser. They could view lists, but attempting to open a case to update it or add notes was impossible – loading business logic just gave the 'circle of endless delay'.
As always, a problem affecting some users can be difficult to resolve. However, it soon became obvious that those people affected by the problem all use Microsoft Edge.
Once these users had moved their default browser to a browser other than Microsoft Edge and cleared their cache in Microsoft Edge the problem was resolved. It is essential to clear the cache, not to just change the default browser.
Browser issues are relatively common with applications such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 – and can arise very unexpectedly – caused either by an upgrade in Microsoft Dynamics 365, or by an upgrade to the browser. Previously I wrote about an issue with Chrome 37. When you are faced with a problem that affects some by not all of users, it is essential to work out what the people affected have in common. This is one of the skills taught in our Troubleshooting Microsoft Dynamics 365 course.
Although this update schedule has effectively been in place since April 2018 – when the latest version of CE - 9.02 - was released – click here to read my blog on the changes in 9.02, last Friday Microsoft announced that Microsoft Dynamics 365 would receive major updates every April and October - every Easter and Halloween.
This means that every six months, there will be a slew of new features and deprecations to understand and to apply to your implementations – if you are running a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Online solution. For those of us running a Microsoft Dynamics 365 on-prem, or partner hosted (eg OzCloudCRM) this means that the supported versions will change each six months, although the pressure to upgrade is somewhat lower.
