The top four ways that dynamics 365 training saves you money

The top four ways that Dynamics 365 training will save you money

Education is a key part of what Opsis recommend for every project. We believe that training so improves the return that you will get from your project that it is worth every cent (and more) that you spend on it. In other words, training is cheaper than not training.

Opsis is one of the only Australian Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementers to provide training which is delivered by a seasoned consultant. Our principal trainer, who also writes our material, - Gill Walker - has sixteen years’ experience working with Microsoft CRM, then Microsoft Dynamics CRM and for the last couple of years she has been working with Microsoft Dynamics 365. During this time, she has seen the good the bad and the ugly of project implementations.  Sometimes our competitors recommend that their clients come to us for Dynamics 365 training because they cannot provide it.

There are many ways that training will save you money – here are our top four ways:

  1. Training makes you and your team more efficient
  2. Training reduces project scope creep
  3. Training enables you to maximise your Dynamics 365 to meet your needs
  4. Training vastly improves user adoption

Training makes you and your team more efficient

Time is money. Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a vast product and there are many ways to achieve tasks within it. Some of these ways are less efficient than others. By ensuring that everyone on the team – end users, stakeholders and technical support people - has received training means that they know the best, and most efficient way to perform tasks.
Perhaps surprisingly, one of the best ways maintain your project’s efficiency, is to make sure that your project managers understand what Dynamics 365 can and, more importantly cannot do and have a comprehension of how it should be configured.

Many organisations are moving some of their implementation to internal people. This gives them the advantage of having more control over the project and prevents the project intellectual capital from walking out of the door at the end of the project.

We recommend:

Training reduces project scope creep

Opsis recommends that your key stakeholders participate in some subject matter expert or business user training prior to scoping the project. This training enables your stakeholders to know what Microsoft Dynamics 365 can do before we start to customise it. This identifies the low hanging fruit for your business, so you get some quick wins.
When this training is omitted from the project it is common for new functionality to be requested later in the project - after the key people have learnt about it.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 has some powerful reporting functionality, including dashboards, reports and querying to extract data. This is an area that we see overlooked in the scoping of the project often because too much focus is placed on data capture rather than use of the data. To avoid this trap, we advise that some of your stakeholders learn about the business intelligence and reporting options early in the project. This enables them to ensure that your company is making smart business decisions each day.

We recommend:

Training enables you to maximise your Dynamics 365 to meet your needs

Microsoft Dynamics 365 can do so much. It provides sales, marketing and service functionality as well as stakeholder management, lead generation, customer support, project management, field service, communication management and much, much more. However, your implementation team members often don’t have the time. Investing in some technical training for your support team and power users will empower them to extend your Dynamics 365 - without code.

We recommend:

Training vastly improves user adoption

Up to 85% of CRM projects are deemed (after the fact) to have failed. One of the biggest causes of this failure is that users do not use the solution. If we ask users why they do not use it, the answer is usually that it is does not help them, or it is too difficult to use. These situations can be avoided with Dynamics 365 end user training provided immediately prior to your go live.

Most, but surprisingly not all, Dynamics 365 projects do start out with end user training as part of the plan. However, it too often gets cancelled, usually because of other errors in the project management.

We recommend:

However, not all training is equal

It is essential that the training that you provide does deliver a change in user behaviours - otherwise your training will be a waste of money.  This means that

  • your trainers must be skilled in training as well as the material that they are training
  • the material being trained is relevant to each users role
  • the training is shown to be important by the organisation - not tick-box training
